• I’ve just upgraded from 2.0.* to 2.7 and appear to be locked out of the admin backend. If I put user/pass combo in, nothing happens. If I put incorrect user/pass combo in I get error message, but correct details seem to just refresh the login page.

I’ve flushed all cookies etc. and tried different browsers same result.

Can’t see anything in the Apache Logs.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

  • Check your wp-config.php file… Make sure all your DB settings are correct.

Also make sure you correctly changed the special keys too match the ones you had in the 2.0 config.

Can you go to your homepage and see all of your posts and/or pages?

    Hi,

When you try to access wordpress admin section then it may ask for the database upgrade so do it. After that if you are unable to login then check the wp-config.php file from the wordpress blog and match your database user details.

If they match and still you are unable to login then you need to reset the password from database. You can do it from PHPMyAdmin. For that please refer this link:

Penfil : My database details in wp-config.php are correct I can access the database from the command line & phpmyadmin. I’m not sure what you mean by “special keys” . Yes I can see my blog, I just can’t get into edit it – https://irvken.net/blog

ShaneG : the data base upgrade request preceded this problem (… and might be the cause of it?). Re changing the database password – unless you have any other ideas I will do this later, doesn’t feel like the solution though ??

    nope that had no affect.

I suppose my next step is to do a new reinstall of 2.7 clean and then try and shoehorn my old database into it ?? Wish me luck.

Strange that no-one has come across this before though.

    I’ve just upgraded from 2.0.* to 2.7

That’s a big jump. A clean install of the code connecting to the same database is the same as an upgrade connecting to the same database…not sure you will get a different result.

If you have the original db then you may want to upgrade incrementally.
