• Hi,

    I have upgraded to 2.3 and cannot login.

    I am stuck with the:

    ERROR; WordPress requires Cookies but your browser does not support them or they are blocked

    message in the login box. I have tried:
    1. Assuming it was a bad password and phpMyAdmin edited the Amin account using an MD5 generator to change my password.
    2. Re-booted
    3. Emptied my browsers satchel, brief case, lunch box, cache, settings
    4. Tried two other browsers, also reset them
    5. Tried a download of the .ZIP instead of the UX flavour-compress in case one was snapped.
    6. Followed the instructions for deleting all my WP (NOT just over-writing as per the initial install), then re-uploaded all fresh shiny 2.3
    7. Praying.
    8. Swearing at my keyboard

    All stubbornly leave me with:

    ERROR; WordPress requires Cookies but your browser does not support them or they are blocked.

    This is VERY soon after 2.3 went live so I know I may not get a reply right away, but, if there is some kind soul who knows that this is, pretty plesase, can you reply?

    I am 100% stuck.

    Are you using any sort of privacy software on your PC? Antivirus? Some of these block cookies and such.

    No. None. It’s a Mac.

    I tried turning off the Firewall.

    I tried turning off LittleSnitch.

    No change.

    I have tried downgrading, then re-upgrading, different browsers, etc. Anyone have some insight on this?

    Same problem here: I use WinXP and Firefox without any Firewall software or anything and I can’t login to the admin pages after the upgrade

    Any help would be really appreciated

    +MichaelH – Sorry for being thick: a)Is this directed at me (I should respond to Westi) and b)I am not sure how to do that if it is me. But thanks for the link.

    It seems (my low-quality guess) that some Cookie testing code had been added and perhaps it is broken? Incisive eh?

    If this can be commented out, for now, then yay!

    Commenting out lines 24 and 313,314 of the wp-login.php file solved the problem for me. Looks like no other functions are connected to this

    +Frischkopp – Yeah! Thanks, this solved my login problem too – but this is a hack (no shame in that of course) and so I won’t close this thread since I am hoping there is a solution lurking out there.

    Well, looking at that code, it’s trying to set a test cookie in your browser, and your browser is not returning the cookie. So something must be interfering.

    Try a different computer altogether. See if that makes any difference.

    Mac OS X 10.4.10

    Browsers: Firefox 2.0.07, Safari 2.0.4 (419.3) and Camino 2007050909 (1.5)

    Firewall (Mac) turned off or on, same.

    LittleSnitch, turned off on on, same.

    Don’t know how to tell my HTTP server version and a quick Google failed to tell me – if it helps, it’s the same server that I have used for WP for a long time and was AOK wiht WP2.2

    The problem happened to me twice, and on both occasions I ended up just deleting the (test) db to get myself unlocked.

    I’m also clueless as to my server verion, and also on Mac OS X 10.4.10. I’m firewalled like crazy but I don’t think that’s the problem, as I don’t have other sites complaining about cookies or anything else. I’m using Firefox, and once the lockout happened I confirmed with FF & Safari on multiple computers (albeit on the same home network).

    I’m using a few plugins — Sanitize With Underscores, Time Zone, flickrRSS, Google Reader Widget, and Twitter Tools (which throws off category errors on its options page, unrelated to the login thing I assume).

    Thanks very much to Frischkopp for providing the voodoo to get it working again, at least temporarily…!

    same problem… I did clean install and have same problem… tried to comment lines 24, 313 and 314 and didn’t work… wont let me to admin panel just shows blank page… I wander is server setup core of the problem?

    +miskolino – I get a 100% normal login page, just constantly whines about cookies, perhaps your problem is different to mine? (not that that observation helps any – just wanted to clarify).
