Can’t login at all – a white blank page appear after I hit enter at login page

    Hi all,

    I wonder if anyone has this problem here.

    One day, out of nowhere, I can’t login to my dashboard. I still have the login page, but once I typed my username and password, and hit enter, I will get a white blank page.

    The only good news is, my blog still up. However, there is another problem, when reader posts comment, after they hit ‘post’, they will get a white blank page too.

    I checked my plugins, they are compatible with wordpress 2.7. And the theme i am using is Morning After theme, author just updated on 14th Feb 2009, so I think it is compatible,

    Prior to this login blank page problem, there are a couple of times, when I wanted to delete plugins from my dashboard, after I hit ‘Yes, I want to delete this plugin files’, I then would get a white blank page too. I then would have to go to my webserver to delete the plugin files.

    I researched online, some suggested to change index.php to index.html. I tried but no luck, it made it worse (no access to my blog, only white blank page).

    I contacted my webhost, the following is their reply and they still researching it : –

    ‘Page is coming up blank, but WordPress install appears to be correct. Could not locate anything in the error logs that would indicate the problem excluding messages regarding the sessions, I checked the session save path in the php.ini file and it appeared correct.’

    I don’t know what to do now. I am sorry that I am someone who has no code background at all. I hope this has not been discussed here, if it does, could someone kindly show me the link.

  • I solved my blank page problem by checking wp-config.php
    remove any space or empty lines before the opening tag <? or after the closing tag ?>

    OMG !!! Hi tleiter, I just tried what you said, delete the empty lines after the tag ?>, and it works like a magic !!!I just could not believe it is as simple as this !!

    My webhost was trying to look for everywhere, and I nearly wanted to uninstall and reinstall the whole thing, but still trying to learn how to reinstall but not losing the data. And you tricks some my life !!

    I have this problem. But, the fix mentioned about wp-config did not solve my problem. Any suggestions?

    I have the same problem, and cannot log in to fix the problem as you suggested.

    I had the same problem after switching servers and fixed it this way:

    In php.ini find session.save_path
    This should have a directory location to your temp/tmp folder.
    php.ini had my old temp location: session.save_path = “C:\WINDOWS\Temp”
    I changed this to the new server temp folder location: session.save_path = “/home5/tommyand/public_html/temp”
    and reuploaded php.ini
    And my error messages went away.

    Phew!
