• Yesterday I tried logging in as I always do to one of my wordpress sites and strangely the login failed, informing me that my password was incorrect. I tried again, it failed. I selected the ‘lost your password’ option, and it tells me ‘Please enter your username or email address. You will receive a link to create a new password via email.’ So I enter my email address, I receive an email taking me to a window where I can reset my password. I reset my password, I return to the login window, and it tells me exactly the same thing, that my login has failed because the password is incorrect. I’ve tried this three times already.

Funny enough, when I look through the support forum documents of ‘lost password’, it says that wordpress will send me a NEW temporary password to login, but this had not happened.

Obviously this is a little frustrating, as I really need to work on this site (for a business) but I’m sure there is a simple explanation/solution – if someone could help me. All my many thanks if you can.

  • If you cannot reset your password from within WordPress, check out https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Resetting_Your_Password for other options.

Thanks very much for your suggestions, fellas. I looked through all the various possibilities on the pages you pointed me to and most of them are valid only if you have access to your control panel. If you don’t then you’re limited to a couple of options, one of which (and the easiest) is the wordpress ‘lost password feature’ which supposedly generates a new password but doesn’t seem to be working.

It says: “Click on lost password. You will be taken to a page to put in some details. Enter your user name and the email address on file for that account. Wait happily as your new password is emailed to you.” Unfortunately, I am not sent a new password but directed to a page where I can reset my password, but this resetting doesn’t seem to be working. I reset and then try to log and it repeats: ERROR: The password you entered for the username XXXX is incorrect. Lost your password?

Is there anyway I can get this lost password feature up and running again? Any help, again, would be greatly appreciated.

The other suggestions on the list are way too technical for me, I’m afraid.
