• Hello,

I have had the site online for several weeks but cannot log into my wp-admin. I know that the password is correct. The problem started when I set the server names of an international company and then, after I realized that they didn’t work (the website went even offline!), I set back the default servers of my hosting service. Since then, as I said, the site has been online but I cannot access my wp-admin. They don’t help me anyway. What can I do to solve the problem?

I deleted on Filezilla the data in the cache folder and I deactivated all the plug-ins, but the issue persists.

When I try to log into wp-admin, this message appears after entering the password:

“There Has Been a Critical Error on Your Website. Find out more here

    Thank you in advance

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. Hopefully, this will force the default theme to activate and rule out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Thank you @macmanx . I renamed/deactivated in filezilla all the plugins. They are all deactivated. The same for the theme: all are renamed. Only the tweentytweentythree is active because if I rename it, the website goes completely offline.. Do you have maybe other suggestions? Thank you in advance.

If you’re still seeing the critical error with all plugins deactivated and the 2023 theme in use, try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.

If you’d like to manually make a backup of your site first, please follow the steps at https://www.ads-software.com/documentation/article/wordpress-backups/

Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

Thank you @macmanx . I never downloaded WordPress. I use it on the browser. Should I now do it?

    WordPress isn’t an application.

Download the files as detailed above, and you’ll be replacing specific files on the server as detailed above.

@macmanx ok. You are simply telling me to download all I have from filezilla and download the database too. Then I have to upload again on filezilla the folders?

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

No, please specifically follow what I wrote in this reply: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/cant-login-to-wordpress-admin-after-changing-servernames/#post-16913815

    Don’t do anything different.

@macmanx Im sorry if I am not so good at understanding. In your message, you say that I have to delete everything except ?wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/. So In my filezilla server I don’t see ?wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/. I only see, themes, plugins, languages, chace, fonts. My provider told me I cannot have access to ?wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/. So now I think I understand: I have to delete and replace those folders except ?wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ – but as I said I don’t see ?wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/. Please confirm me if I understood. Thank you in advance.

It sounds like you’re inside the /wp-content/ folder already.

See if your FTP client allows you to browser higher than that, and check its documentation for specifics.

    (@govisola)

@macmanx I already know. They told me I cannot go higher than that, due to subscription deals. Is there anything else I can do?

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

In that case, it sounds like you’ll need to contact their support to ask for a proper reinstall, or move to a better hosting provider that doesn’t limit you like that: https://www.ads-software.com/hosting/

    (@govisola)

@macmanx and if I change the hosting provider, will I lose all my datas, blog articles etc?

@macmanx thank you. I see a notification of a person called “theflowersname” suggesting me a solution but I don’t see it in my topic. Was it removed? Was some phishing? You are a moderator, maybe you know.

    It was a spammer.
