Can't make non "Front Page" look like a web page instead of a blog page

I can’t figure out how to make my About page look like a web page, rather than a blog post. I have set it to use the full screen with no sidebar. I don’t see a way to say, “Make it a static page not a blog page.” I did that with the font page, home, but I can’t seem to do it with other pages.

Speaking of home, I saw a tutorial that said I can change the WP-generated page name to something meaningful. However, the only choices I see are date and poast, post name, and so forth. I want to change the generated page to “home,” “about,” etc. How is this done please? I looked and looked but the only place I saw to change the permalinks did not offer me this option. Thanks.
