Can't make sitemap work!

Using v4.0.8, when I click the link, I get a yellow page saying
“XML Parsing Error: no element found
Location: https://domainname.com/sitemap.xml
Line Number 1, Column 1:”I’m using exactly the same setup as in another of my sites, so the html is ok. Likely something simple, but losing some hair here. ??
