All was working fine until I updated to UD 1.7.34, then I got a prompt to authenticate and received this error: “Bad response when contacting Google: SSL read: error:00000000:lib(0):func(0):reason(0), errno 0.”

Changing SSL settings in the Expert Settings made no difference. Reverting to 1.7.20 made no difference.

I am running WP 3.7, but made this change after installing UD 1.7.34.

    Thoughts?

PS: I am running the previous version of WP and UD 1.7.20 on one of my other sites going to the same Google Drive account with no issues.

Are you with Network Solutions? We just had another report very like this. For that one, I replied with this (and the advice applies to you, whether you’re with Network Solutions or not):

This one is definitely an error that only Network Solutions can fix. It indicates that they’ve updated part of the software on their servers to a recent version that has this known bug in it: https://sourceforge.net/p/curl/bugs/1249/

To confirm that, click on the ‘expert settings’ link in UpdraftPlus, and then click on the ‘phpinfo’ link. Then scroll down the window to the section that is headed ‘curl’, and copy-and-paste for me what it says there.

Yup, that confirms it. Curl 7.31.0 is the dodgy version (see: https://sourceforge.net/p/curl/bugs/1249/).

You need to bring this to the attention of your hosting company, so that they can update to a non-broken version. Otherwise, any and all parts of WordPress that try to communicate with network services will have problems.
