    Hi,

I have two blogs. Both are hosted in the same place, both have the latest WordPress and associated plugins. But one of them won’t open up my admin page when I log in. When I put in my ID and password, it opens the wp-login.php page but it’s entirely blank, and the browser says “Done” down at the bottom. I’m using FireFox but I get the same problem with Internet Explorer.

    Ideas?

  • Hi,

    Check with these options:

-> Disable all the plugins and enable it one by one to find out the culprit
-> upgrade wordpress to the latest version
-> remove all unwanted code from htaccess
-> change the theme to default to rules out theme level problem

    Thanks,

    Shane G.

    Shane,

I already have the latest WordPress version.
I cannot disable plugins or change the theme because I can’t get the admin page to open.

    Other ideas?

    John

Try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin

I tried that via FTP but now I get a bunch of error messages:

    Hi,

Actually, I’ve solved the problem for the time being by reinstalling WordPress. I can now log in and I have changed my password.

Suspecting a hack, I went ahead and deleted all the users (except myself “admin” of course)–there weren’t that many users so it’s not a big deal.

But here’s the thing. It says I have TWO admins but it only lists ONE, me. How do I detect this missing admin, and how do I fix it?

    Thanks!

It’s essential that you clean up properly after a hack otherwise it will only happen again. Most hacks will attempt to leave a back door in place, so you do really need clean up afterwards.

Dear esmi, I have the same problem, and is solved by resetting the plugins folder… really appreciate your help. Thank you so much….
    What I did were:
    1. Rename the plugins folder to plugins.hold folder
    2. Make a new plugins folder
    3. Move/install the plugins I needed
    4. And everything’s back to normal….
