Can’t open backup file

  • Since updating to Backwpup 3.7, when I try to open a .zip file generated by backwpup and downloaded via the WordPress dashboard, I get the following error message:

    Windows cannot open the folder.
    The Compressed (zipped) Folder (file path) is invalid.

    I am using WordPress 5.3.1 via Chrome on Windows 10. I’m seeing this problem consistently across multiple WordPress sites hosted with different companies, so it’s not likely that it is a problem with the hosting environment or my WordPress installation.

    I can open backwpup’s .zip files normally when I download them from Dropbox.

    Files generated by Backwpup 3.6.10 and downloaded via the WordPress dashboard open normally (although they are still missing files unless opened with something like WinRAR, which shouldn’t be necessary).
