Can’t open or edit post! Keeps crashing.

  • Hi,

    I am trying to access a wordpress post that I have been working on for several day, but suddenly I am unable to open it.

    When I click to open, I get a white page with the message: ‘The site is experiencing technical difficulties. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.’ But, I have received no email.

    Everything had been working absolutely fine!

    I have unplugged some plugins. This helped briefly; I was again able to open the post. BUT, within minutes the post would crash again, and I was then once again unable to open it. So I am not sure if plugins are causing the problem.

    The strange thing is, I am able to open different posts with no apparent problem. It just seems to be ‘one’ particular post.

    I’m relatively new to worpress and have no real clue as to what has happened. So any help would be very much appreciated.

    -is there something unique to the post with the problem
    -be sure you have a recent backup of database and files
    -have you tried to deactivate ALL plugins
    -have you tried to change to a theme like twentynineteen
    -please share a link to your website.

    Thanks for the reply.

    1. I don’t believe there is anything unique about the post. I am using the newspaper theme (tagdiv). It is a pretty long post and it does have a number of photos in it (all compressed). Can a photo cause a problem?

    2. I have tried deactivating all plugins and reactivating them individually.

    This was a strange one as I was briefly able to open the post again. This made me think I had identified a plugin that may have been causing a problem. But then it crashed again.

    What I did notice when I managed to get back in was: when I manually saved the post, it never fully completed the save action. So I had to click out of the post to stop it perpetually cycling. And then, when I clicked to go back in – I get the ‘technical difficulties’ error message again.

    When I hover over the post title, I am able to open a ‘preview’ of the post with no problem. It’s just when when I try to open it to continue editing, no joy.

    3. I have not tried another theme, as I’m not overly familiar with how to do this.

    I can open another post with no apparent problem, so an issue with the theme didn’t really come to mind. It’s just this one specific post.

    4. My blog site is currently not live, as I am still developing it.

    “technical difficulties” are often a signal of a plugin or theme issue.

    ideas:

    -can you create a new post with a few words of text only and then reopen the post to edit and add an image with more text?

    -are you able to install this plugin and use troubleshooting mode?
