Can't open widgets

Having an interesting problem. Using “2010 blogging inside edition”. Haven’t modified widgets in a few months. Wanting to do so now but cannot open widget areas. I am using “bullet proof security”plugin which has notified me of attempted hacks to the site, but have trusted it to keep intruders at bay.
Any thoughts on why I cannot access widgets or drop down arrows in admin panel?
