Hello guys and Happy new Year!

I was hoping you could help me on an issue I’m having with the Wordfence Web Application Firewall (not the premium feature).

I’m having trouble optimizing the extented protection of the firewall in two different installations for two different clients.
    This message pops up
“To make your site as secure as possible, take a moment to optimize the Wordfence Web Application Firewall: Click here to configure”

But every time I try to do it, it doesn’t work. This has never happened to all the other websites I’ve installed your brilliant plugin, so I’m wondering what I’m doing wrong.

After I click to “continue” the process on your preselected server configuration based on your tests, I am then taken to a screen asking “Please download a backup copy of the following files before we make the necessary changes:”

I click “download” for the file, but then the [continue] button is not clickable. When I hover the mouse over it there’s a red sign indicating that it can not be “clicked”

I’ve tried a different server configuration but with the same results. I’ve even tried the alternate method be appending the php.ini, but with no success.

When I click on the “Click to view your system’s configuration in a new window” from the diagnostics tab in the tools section, it only gets me to a white screen with the message
“? 2011 to 2018 Wordfence — Visit Wordfence.com for help, security updates and more.”

Note that i’m also using BPS plugin, but it has never caused any such problen in all the other websites.

Could you please help me resolve this issue? I’d soooo greatful!

    Thank you in advance!

    Chrissy

  • Hi @ledaki,

Can you see any errors in your browser console?

Have you tried switching to a default theme? –as there are cases of admin pages with query string being redirected for some themes.

    Hi wfyann,

Thank you for getting back to me. I tried the instruction you gave me for errors in the browser console, but I don’t get any “Uncaught ReferenceError”.
Also, I switched to the Twenty Seventeen theme, but nothing changed.
I have to think that since this happens in both different installation with two different themes (one is premium and the other free) there has to be some common ground. Both websites use the same host and have a list of plugins they both have installed.

    Wordfence
    BulletProof Security
    Sucuri Secrity
    W3TC
    Yoast SEO

ps: I have installed the same plugins on the above list in more than one website and I never had this issue before

Please have a look at it. Thank you so much for your time.

    Hi,

Do you see any other type of error? Have you also checked the “Network” tab?

Have you tried to temporarily disable all other security plugins before attempting again to carry out the optimization procedure?
