I have just set up a WordPress site and wanted to copy and paste some text into a new page. However, I found that I can’t paste the text into the text field.

Has anyone encountered this? Can someone help?

    Thanks!

    Where are you copying from?
What happens exactly when you try to paste?

I first copy from Word, then another application, then I paste the text onto notepad just so that it’s only text. All did not work.
When I paste into the text box, basically nothing happened – I try pasting in visual mode, then into HTML mode, and both didn’t work.

I also tried pasting with right-clicking in the text box and clicking paste in the menu and also using CtrlV, both didn’t work also.

One time, it looks like a scroll bar appeared but there it nothing in the text box.

I have been using WordPress for a long time through many versions, this is the first time I encounter this – I guess I can type everything in but it will take me much much longer! Since there are many pages and posts I need to post.

    *UPDATE*
I just tried copying and pasting from WORD, and it worked but only pasting in the HTML mode. In visual mode, the same thing happened.

is your color of text is white when posting using visual editor?

    (@phuile)

No, the colour of the text is black. And as I said, I tried pasting from Notepad also which doesn’t have colour information.
As mentioned in my “Update” post, I can paste from WORD into HTML mode but still no luck in Visual mode.

I have just set up a WordPress site

Delete the wp-includes folder. DO NOT touch the wp-content folder.

Download a fresh copy of WordPress, extract the wp-includes folder and upload it to your site.

Hi kmessinger – can you explain why I need to delete the wp-include folder and so on?

I have already uploaded my theme into the themes folder and have started entering content and configuring. If I really need to upload a fresh copy of the wp-includes folder, I will do it, but I am just curious as I never have to do that before.

I have already uploaded my theme into the themes folder and have started entering content and configuring.

That would all be in the wp-content folder and the database.

Most likely something went wrong at the install and not all the files made it correctly. The files for that screen, menu’s, etc. are in wp-includes.

    What theme are you using?
Do you have any plugins active?

    Thread Starter phuile

    (@phuile)

I have designed my own theme. I am using 5 widgets but I am not using any plug-ins at the moment (although some are installed).

I have been using my own themes for perhaps half a dozen sites but this is the first time this happens …

I have established that I can paste into HTML mode, but in Visual mode, when I paste, I noticed that it “pastes” a space always. I can see the ASCII code for a space when I go into HTML.

Please change to the twenty fourteen theme and see what happens.

So you can paste into visual and text?

I can see the ASCII code for a space when I go into HTML.

That has to be coming from your original text. Spaces are just that, spaces in wp.

I copy a paragraph of text – from Notepad for example. Then I paste it into HTML mode, and it appears in HTML mode and when I switch back to Visual mode, I can see the text begin pasted.
When I paste the exact same paragraph of text into Visual mode first, nothing is pasted into Visual mode (i.e. I can’t see anything being pasted). BUT when I switched to HTML mode, I can see that a space is being pasted.
I hope this clearly explains what happened.

In the default theme I cannot duplicate what is happening to you. Even checking the source code there is no problem.

Have you tried the default theme yet?

I’ve had this same problem the entire year I’ve been on WordPress. I’ve tried different themes, tried the reinstalls, tried disabling all my plug-ins, I can’t get it to work either. Can’t paste anything from anywhere–not Web content, not Word copy, nor Pages, nor plain text or copy written in an email–it won’t save.

OK sure, since that’s so much more efficient than having advice in one place. Thanks!
