• I just updated to v 3.9 and now I find that I can no longer copy and paste graphs from Excel. Furthermore, if I edit an existing post that had had graphs pasted from Excel, they vanish.

This is a killer. Any idea how to restore the ability to paste (and retain) these graphs?

    Thanks a million!

Can you share a graph you’ve been pasting from? Toss a file up on DropBox or CloudUp. I don’t actually have any of use…

    Thanks Mika.

Apparently this is a visual editor thing: I’ve seen several other threads about the problems with v 3.9. I’ll read through those to get the details on the advice, but it appears that it’s primarily, “deactivate the plugins, then reactivate them one at a time.”

Did this fix the problem for you? I’m hesitant to disable plugins at random with a site that is live.

Would adding back the paste from word function solve the excel pasting issue? I rely heavily on pasting from excel into wordpress as tables

@dirtymiles – try creating a local test environment WordPress install. You can use WAMP or MAMP to set a local server environment up. Then configure a WordPress site on this environment. Try to match, as closely as possible, your live server environment. Do your testing on this local setup before making any changes to the live site.

I actually have an old dummy site with no plugins at all that I’ve update to 3.9. You can’t paste from excel into the editor and have it maintain the table format.

So this is purely a 3.9 change as far as I can tell.

Hmmm. Using WordPress 3.9 running on IIS, twenty-twelve theme, no plugins, IE10, I can copy and paste from Excel into the visual editor just fine.

So more research needed to find out why it isn’t working for some people but it is working for others.

Can you guys share a graph or chart for those of us who are excel defective? I’m happy to help test, can’t make a chart to save my life ??

Just type anything into a bunch of cells and copy paste them into your wordpress post.

Well I was wrong (sorry about that). Excel charts and graphs do not paste into the Visual Editor. Tables come over fine. Charts do not.

I have a simple file I can put on DropBox, but it appears that to create a shared folder I need to name the people who will have access to it. If y’all will let me know your IDs, I’ll create the folder straightaway.

Good news! My compatriot @dh-shredder was able to reproduce this. Bonus? He was the backup lead for this release!

    https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/27909

We’re going to trac this and figure out what to do about it without breaking more things.

    Hot diggity!

I like fixing stuff without breaking other stuff.

Once again, thanks a million, Mika! Please extend my sincerest thanks to Shredder as well.

Not to be a pest, but do you have any idea if this is a 2-3 day thing, or a 2-3 month thing?

    Thanks, again.

While they work on it I found a semi solution to my problem:

    https://tableizer.journalistopia.com

All you need to do is excel paste you table in there and it makes the tr td’s for you.

I’ve just tried this from Excel 2008 for Mac, and it works fine. It inserts itself into the post as an image with the following html if I look in the text editor (I’ve xd the actual link):
    <img src=”webkit-fake-url://xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx/application.pdf” alt=”” />

    Probably no help at all.
