Can't Remove Calendar, Location and Red Border

I’ve upgraded from previous version.
On the Registration page (front end of site) there is a thin red border around the event description. Also the “Add to Calendar” icon, “Location” text and associated white space with a button link to “More Info” are present (not there previously). I don’t want to show these items, but cannot remove them. I have deactivated and reactivated the plugin.
Also, each time I access Edit > Event the text is modified in the detailed description of the event, i.e., backslashes (\) are added in front of all apostrophes (‘) and quotes (“).
