I’d like to remove the “Leave a Reply” line and the comment box below on several of my pages, and can’t figure out how. I’ve read a bunch of forums, and I’ve gone to Settings/Discussion and unchecked all the comment-allowing options (including Jetpack). They’re still showing up!

Here’s the site (in production): https://mf-fellows-dev.mit.edu/. You can see it on the About/The Martin Foundation page and the Fellows/Alumni page.

I’ve seen suggestions about commenting out code in some .php files, which I’d rather not do if possible since I don’t know php. But if that’s the only way then I’ll do it. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

  • Hi @hannahloomis,

Unchecking the options for comments via Settings > Discussion will disable comments for all future posts/pages, however, comments on pages that have already been published need to be disabled individually.

This can be done via the settings in your admin area, no code needed. ??

    Follow these steps:

    • Navigate to the editor for any given page.
    • Click on the Screen Options tab in the upper right of the page.
    • Make sure the box next to Discussion is checked in this tab.
    • Next, scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the Discussion module.
    • Uncheck the option to “Allow comments.” in the Discussion module and save the changes to the page.

I’ve made a quick screencast to help illustrate the above steps, also:

Let me know if that helps out or if you have any extra questions.

That did it – thank you!! Totally counter-intuitive, to my thinking, but I figured there had to be a built-in solution ?? Thanks again – it was driving me nuts!

You’re most welcome! We’re right here if any extra questions come up too. ??
