Can't remove search form from 2011 theme

  • Copied header.php file to “childoftwentyeleven” folder. Commented out the code containing the search form as described elsewhere on this site. Search form still there. Tried DELETING the code in the child header file. Search form still there. Tried commenting code in real original header file; search form still there. Tried DELETING the code in the original header file; search form still there. Did all of this through control panel on site server; baffled as to why changes are not taking effect. Even tried setting the searchform to Display: none in the child css file.

    What could be going wrong here?
