I have a page and an individual link in my menu that I want to restrict to special levels. The Access Levels field is available and I see my groups when I click into the Search for Levels field. It doesn’t matter if I choose from the suggestions or if I write the name in total myself. In both cases the level is added as a blue rectangle with a x to delete it. But after saving the menu, the field is empty again and everybody can see these menu entries.

Any ideas where to look and what to check?

    Thank you for reporting this.

There could be a conflict with another plugin that interferes with the way levels are added to the menu. Have you tried deactivating some and see if that resolves the problem? If it does, please let me know the name of the plugin.

Hello and thanks for the fast response.

I hadn’t tried before posting, but your suggestion brought me closer.

The issue only happens when I active qtranslate-x. Even if the levels are set when it is deactivated after reactivating the levels are gone.

I used both plugins together for a while but it looks like that one of the last WP Updates might caused some problems with the outdated qtranslate-x.

Do you see a chance to fix this easily (by your part)? It seems reasonable to me that I change the other plugin and do the multilanguage stuff by a modern alternative, it’s just that I dreads the migration ??

Are there experiences with which language plugin RUA works well?

Thank you for looking into it. Restrict User Access in fact supports qTranslate X, meaning that you can restrict content in different languages by that plugin. I have not tested it with the nav menu screen though, so there might be an incompatibility there.

Other multilingual plugins that is supported by Restrict User Access can be found here: https://dev.institute/docs/restrict-user-access/conditions/languages/

Alright. Would you mind to check for that incompatibility? Or is there a way I could do that? Maybe it is still a special constellation of my setup that causes this behaviour. I don’t know yet which way I will take to handle that issue:
    – waiting for a fix by you
    – searching for a bug I created
    – changing the language plugin

I have just tested this, and I can confirm that there is an incompatibility. For some reason changes the data format of the Access Levels that should be saved, so Restrict User Access no longer recognizes it.

Unfortunately it is not possible for me to fix it on my end, it has to be fixed by qTranslate X, and I assume that Restrict User Access is not the only plugin affected by the problem.

Could you open a support ticket for qTranslate X and make them aware of this issue? You can refer the developers to this thread so we can get it fixed.

Otherwise, the other multilingual plugins that Restrict User Access supports do not intervene with the nav menu, so it is also an option to switch.

Alright, fine and thank you so far.

I have the impression that it isn’t worth to open a ticket there. The last plugin release is nearly two years old and the last threads in the forum are all unanswered. Unfortunately it looks like the work has stopped or at least paused.

I started to take a closer look to the plugins you suggested and have to figure out if the will work with my other plugins.

I guess this issue is resolved as long as your part is concerned.
