When I open customizer the blue button at the top reads ‘saved’ and it is opaque. The button changes to ‘save and publish’ only when I make a change in the customizer. Then when it is depressed to save the change, it reverts back to the opaque ‘saved’ button with the letters opaque. It’s as if the button is stuck or waiting for me to do something else.

The display that appears to the right of the customizer shows all the desired changes that I have made. I can navigate within that display and everything works wonderfully. The pages, the blog, the featured images, the posts, the colors, mobile display, fonts, etc. all work and display correctly from within that screen.

When I “x” out of the customizer the ‘save’ button is still opaque. I choose ‘visit the site’ from within word press and the changes are not there. I access the site from my address bar and the changes are not there.

If I go back to word press and enter the customizer from the word press themes page SG Window icon to customize, I land at the main customizer drop down display with my website pages displayed on the right and within that display of my blog everything works fine.

If I enter the customizer from the dashboard ‘customize’ option, I again land at the main customizer drop down display, The ‘save and publish’ button flashes briefly and reverts to the opaque save button. Everything in the display on the right (my blog) works and is as I designed it. The display is showing that the changes were made and that they are working correctly, but when you access the blog from outside the customizer the changes are not there.

One other thing I should mention. I don’t think that widgets selected using the word press dashboard ‘widget’ button are saved. I have not done enough testing to be positive.

I really want to install this theme for my site. It looks just the way I want it in the customizer but not on the net. Can you help me figure this out?

    Carlos

PS: I recorded all of my settings and have included them below.

‘Site title and tagline’ option is set and displays correctly in both the display to the right of the customizer and when displayed calling up the site from the internet.

The same holds for the ‘header image’option.

‘customize layout’ options are as follows:

    ‘site size’ is at 1680

    ‘featured image’ is 400.

‘columns’ unit is %; width of first with two sidebar layout is 20%; width of second column with two sidebars is 20%; left or right sidebars only are set at 34%/

‘post’ checked options are ‘display featured image’; ‘display title’; ‘display author’; ‘display post date’; and,’display link to comments’

‘home’ options are: ‘two columns'(checked); and, ‘override default sidebars’ is checked; ‘first column’ and second column’ are checked
    .
‘blog’ options are ‘blog layout’ 1 column; ‘post style’ is content; display: post author;post date;post comments;and, ‘override default sidebars’ is checked; ‘first column’ and second column’ are checked.

‘search’ options are: ‘search layout’ is right column; ‘page style’ is excerpt;and, ‘override default sidebars’ is checked; ‘first column’ and second column’ are checked.

‘portfolio archive’options are: ‘portfolio(Archive)layout is full width;portfolio (Archive) layout (content)’ is 2 columns; ‘index style’ is content; and, ‘override default sidebars’ is checked; ‘first column’ and second column’ are checked.

‘portfolio page’ options are:layout is two columns; and, ‘override default sidebars’ is checked; ‘first column’ and second column’ are checked.

‘page’ options are: page layout is two columns; display title; and, ‘override default sidebars’ is checked; ‘first column’ and second column’ are checked.

‘archive’ options are: layout (content) 1 column;and, ‘override default sidebars’ is checked; ‘first column’ and second column’ are checked.

‘default layout’ options are:two colimns; first column and second column (checked). I don’t know what ‘register default sidebars for all pages’ means so I did not check it.

Hi Carlos, all changes made in the customizer saved after pressing “Save & Publish” button in the customizer.

What exactly doesn’t work for you from the listed changes?

‘default layout’ options are:two colimns; first column and second column (checked). I don’t know what ‘register default sidebars for all pages’ means so I did not check it.

That mark means ‘display sidebars for posts and all other pages without custom sidebars’, so should be checked.

    Cats_456,
I very much appreciate your patience in your attempts to help me. I am using SG Double at a different site and have had success with it. For this new site I wanted something a little more sophisticated so I chose the parent theme, SG Window for this site.

I will attempt to better explain the problem. I have set all the parameters/options in customizer and saved them as I noted in my previous post. The display of those changes appear on the screen to the right of the customizer drop down selections. In that display of the ‘new’ changes I can navigate throughout the site and everything appears to display and function correctly.

The customizer shows every change to be ‘saved’. And it is saved somwhere because it is in the display window even after I log out of customizer and come back later.

The problem I am having is that the site does not appear on the web as I designed it, even though customizer shows the changes to be saved, but they are not published. All the changes work within customizer.

On the web, the front page is correct. Clicking on an article in ‘Recent Posts’ the returned page shows the article with featured image in the middle (like I want it) but the sidebars are empty. seniorshealthcaretopics.com

    What am I not doing?

This is due to this setting. Unchecked mark hides sidebars on posts.

check mark at customize layout > default > register default sidebars for all pages to see sidebars for post.

You can select some menu at Appearance > Menus too.

    Explanation:

Theme has custom sidebar for different types of pages:

    1) Front Page
    2) Blog
    3) Page
    4) Post (default)
    5) Archive
    6) Search Results
    7) Portfolio Archive
    8) Portfolio Page
    9) Shop Archive
    10) Shop Page

If you check mark ‘override default sidebars’ theme will hide default sidebars on this type of page. If you unset this mark it will show default sidebars.

So, if you want to see the same sidebars on pages, archives, search, blog and posts uncheck mark ‘override default sidebars on’
    > Customize Layout > Archive
    > Customize Layout > Page
    > Customize Layout > Blog
    > Customize Layout > Search

if you uncheck mark for displaying default sidebars too, all sidebars will be empty and you can use hook to add content from plugin:

    – sgwindow_empty_column_1-home
    – sgwindow_empty_column_1-blog
    – sgwindow_empty_column_1-page
    – sgwindow_empty_column_1-default

    etc

Well, Eureka! I have been playing with it all day yesterday and today and it works! I now better understand the layout and flexibility of this theme. The terminology was somewhat confusing for me, being somewhat of a novice. I have successfully installed several much simpler themes. Nevertheless, it’s working.

I still have a problem with the comment prompt not showing on the post. I allowed all users to post in the ‘discussion’ settings, saved the settings and there is no place for anyone to comment. I compared the settings with the settings I have on my SG Double theme and they are the same. SG Double has a ‘Leave a comment’ prompt at the foot of all the posts.

I don’t see anything in the SG Window customizer to enable or disable the comment prompt. Is something overriding the prompt?

    Thanks,
    Carlos

caperez, you should probably check ‘discussion’ settings in the post edit screen:

Screen options > Discussion > Allow comments

This old man sometimes overlooks the obvious of the most obvious. There are no comment prompts in those posts because they are ‘old’ posts. Discussion settings are for ‘new’ posts. Posts on this site under construction were posted before all discussion parameters were set. The new ‘test’ post showed the comment prompt.
