• Apologies if I’ve missed a topic that covers this but I’m at my wit’s end.

For the last year and a half, I’ve been posting on my site happily without any errors. This week I initially encountered a mod_security error when trying to log in via the /wp-login. I am with Bluehost so when to their IT support, they cleared the cache and now if I go in via the Bluehost login I can get in. I also had an error trying to save posts (got a .json error), but with the clearing of the cache at Bluehost’s end that seemed to fix it.

But, when I try to edit a post although it will let me save the draft and tell me it has saved, when I try to preview it none of the changes are present. When I then leave the post editor and go back in to edit again the changes that were supposedly saved have vanished.

I also can publish the post, publically or privately. I get the pre-publish checks but when I hit publish it just reloads the checks again.

If I try to create a new post entirely it initially looks like it is working but the title won’t save, nothing appears with preview (can’t find anything error) and going back to all posts means the new post just disappears.

I’ve been back to Bluehost IT support twice and they can add a post, publish and edit. But I can’t. They’ve cleared the cache again, they’ve made me try different browsers, different machines and even different internet connections but the problem remains for me.

I thought it could be a plugin issue. I’ve not really added anything new, not for months, but maybe an update caused an issue. I can’t delete them though. I try but the delete just cycles (deleting) and then nothing. I can deactivate but that’s it.

I did add the health check plugin so I could troubleshoot, but even with all the plugins deactivated and using the default theme (I normally use leeway), the problem remains.

I’m at a loss. Any help would be gratefully received.

In case it is useful I tried to see what would happen if I tried to log in via Safari on my iPhone. Went in via Bluehost.

I can edit posts, save, and they both appear in the preview and in the post when I go back to edit again.

So I tried a different machine and used a laptop. And I could edit, save and preview here properly! Using Chrome.

Yet it still doesn’t work via Firefox (in private browsing either), Chrome, or even Edge on my orignal PC. I’m completely stumped about what is so special about my PC and browsers.

I went back to Bluehost support for the 4th time. This time they suggested deleting the root folder for my browsers, and gave vague and dated instructions on how to do it (I think they googled it and gave me the first solution which was actually about sharepoint from 2016).

But I tried anyway, and deleted the local profiles for Firefox and Chrome, and the reinstalled both browsers. No joy.

I did however try Tor and it worked ?? I can make changes if I use Tor and they stay saved. It’s far from ideal as solutions go. I’m still stumped as to why Firefox and Chrome, and Edge, aren’t working but I can only assume it’s some setting or something cached that I can’t clear, that is causing the issue.

    Through elimination it is Not:
    – The PC itself
    – The internet connection
    – Anything server side (as IT support made changes, and I could on Tor, or different browsers on different machines)
    – The plugins
    – The theme

It seems to be something specifically about Firefox, Chrome and Edge on this particular PC. Something that remains after clearing cookies, and the cache. And after reinstalling the browser. Anyone with any ideas? I’d much rather use Chrome or Firefox than Tor.
