• I’ve been trying to get a post published, but every time I try to save, I get sent to the 404 page-does-not-exist page of the blog. After extensive troubleshooting, I’ve found that the following line causes the problem:

The selection of Grand Marchi players proved to be both renowned and comprehensive. From north to south

Specifically, the post cannot be saved when the word from is present, but only after that sentence. Very strange.
We use wordpress 2.5, but we also administer a new site using wordpress 2.7 and the same exact thing happens. I’ve also tried writing that line into a new post on my work computer, but I get the same result. I’m not sure what else to do, not sure if I’m doing something wrong.

This is the first time I’ve come across this problem.
What sentence/line is giving you problems?
By any chance, did you try the line I posted.

I’m using 2.7.1 here and having the same problem. Here’s the paragraph that causes the 404:

I’ll be virtually running the Tokyo marathon from home on March 22nd, and you can, too! Joseph is here to tell you more, and you can read the buzz on iPhoning Japan.

There are two instances of “from”, the second being part of the iPhoning Japan url. Removing the word “from” completely was the only workaround, so I ended up writing this:

On March 22nd, I’ll be virtually running the Tokyo marathon without even leaving my chair. Why not join me? Joseph is here to tell you more, and you can read the buzz on iPhoning Japan.

I had to use tinyurl to avoid “from”. If it helps troubleshoot the problem, the final post can be found here.

This issue has to do with Mod Security on your server.

I spent 40 mins troubleshooting this with my host.

You need to whitelist certain files in your wp-admin area. Or, if you can, whitelist all of the files in wp-admin.

DO NOT use the mod_sec workarounds that seem to be posted several places on the web.

By way of confirmation, I was having the same problem with a particular post. A privacy policy actually.

I had to contact hosting support as well and it was indeed a problem with Mod Sec.

I quoted the Mod Sec issue discussed here and gave them the URL to this thread and they had it fixed right away.

    Thanks!
