    Site is https://www.rinocracy.com

    I was having trouble with Jetpack subscription widget, so just added Subscribe2 to try to add those people manually. But, nothing seems to happen when I manually add addresses, including my own address.

    I also put a “Test” version of widget on sidebar, and when I add emails in there, I get a “Confirmation Email has been sent,” but no email is received.

    I created a new email address that matches domain name.
    Not sure what else to do (am ready to uninstall and try something else).

    I do currently have Jetpack still installed.

  • @hlparker,

    There may be an issue in the created subscriber database table. Try uninstalling and then add the plugin again.

    Wellll….. luckily i took a screen shot of the public subscriber list as that was entirely deleted on the reinstall…. However, I seemed to be able to add my own email address to the Public Subscriber List.

    But a new trouble is that the Subscribe2 Sidebar Widget is not loading… I tried deactivating it and reactivating it, to no avail.
    (I’ve deactivated my original (Jetpack) subscribe widget))

    Any guidance welcome.

    Sorry…. forget I have to re-check the Enable Subscribe2 Widget box.

    @hlparker,

    I should have warned you about losing all of your subscribers but it sounded like you were simply testing the plugin rather than using it in a live site – sorry.

    Are you up and running again now?

    Hi — Well…. I thought we were up and running… except:

    We just sent out a new post, (Special Bulletin), and my own email address that I manually subscribed, did NOT receive the post. However, I know someone did as we had a first comment, and atleast 3 family members (guinea pigs) did receive the post.

    > Any ideas on me not receiving the post? I checked that email directly and the spam folder… It could have been an email address that I had previously unsubscribed (as I was testing 3-4 email addresses), and then I manually re-subscribed. (I did just test adding another of my email addresses via the Subscribe2 sidebar and that did work.)

    > I still have, Follow My Blog Post, as an INactive plugin (but not DELETED): Please confirm I should delete it, as some people then got two email notifications, if they were subscribed by Subscribe2 and Follow My Blog Post? This will lose any subscribers there, but as I have added all of them into Subscribe2, that should not be a problem. GOAL: have all subscribers in ONE database.

    > I see that with Subscribe2, that subscribers can follow posts of certain categories…. is there any way they can subscribe to a certain post?
    > I set up the Subscribe2 Widget for Sidebar, but I’m not seeing how to add a checkbox after a Comment, to Subscribe to Blog or Subscribe to Post (such as i had (or still have with Follow My Blog Post). Is that possible?

    Thank you for all advice.

    @hlparker,

    For tracking email sending try installing an email logging plugin. It helps you to identify if an attempt was made to send.

    You can delete Follow My Blog Post whenever you feel ready. It won’t have any impact while it is inactive.

    Subscribe2 allows readers to subscribe to emails about new posts when they are published. The other things you talk about are not features if Subscribe2.

    Thank you, Matt, I will try Email Log.

    Is there any other following/subscribing plug-in that you’d recommend to go with Subscribe2, to a.) make it easy for people to subscribe, and b.) be able to follow a certain post?

    Also…. I know see a subscribe has TWO identical email addresses in Subscribe2 Subscriber List. He must have resubscribed after last post. Will he get double notifications? Can I safely delete one? (One email address had a capital letter where the other didn’t.”

    (OR I don’t think he could have passively double subscribed when he replied to a comment, just because the post reply-box was checked “Notify me of new comments via email.”

    Thank you again….

    @hlparker,

    I use the Subscribe2 Widget (enable it on the settings page) to make subscribing a bit easier. I’m not sure what you mean about following a post – do you mean comments on that post?

    The duplicate subscriber may well get 2 emails but Internet standards, if applied strictly, mean that upper case and lower case in the user part of an email (the bit before the @) can be treated as different email addresses with separate inboxes.
