Can’t seem to log into WordPress

  • About 2 or 3 days ago, one of the blogs I run came under a few problems – I couldn’t seem to login, unfortunately my host doesn’t give helpful error messages, and it says “Internal Server Error, this is an error with your script, check your error log for more information.”, the error log contains this:-

    The URL Is ideasman.com (not linked), I can see the login page and when I logout the page looks okay, it’s only when I login that I get the error.

    I’ve uploaded the wp-admin directory (and the rest of wordpress) multiple times. I’m just completely clueless as to why this is occurring.

    It was working fine a few days ago, and – despite writing a few posts – I’ve done nothing in the backend.

    Any ideas?

  • The simple solution or easiest would be re-upload ALL your files for the version of wp you are using.

    So in affect do a re-upgrade except you are not upgrading.

    Take a back up of everything first as per normal. And be careful – thats my suggested route, others might come up with better approach for me this is least time consuming given we cannot see into your install.

    PS well another bright idea to try first – might want to examine the .htaccess I guess first – maybe you have redirects going on or your url settings for your blog are incorrect? Check in the Admin->Settings.

    I’ve tried looking at the .htaccess (can’t log in to my blog but can’t look at the url’s) via ftp and it’s empty. Plus I’ve had the standard url’s, no mod rewriting, so don’t think it’s that.

    More and more I think about it it’s a hosting issue.

    Possibly might be hosting but hard to tell.

    As I say try to backup everything – then put a fresh set of files on the server and connect to the same db and see what happens. That way you can eliminate the host or otherwise.
