• Folks – installed the plugin and added FB App (we already had one) ID and Secret. Clicked on Login With Facebook button and clicked continue and the dialogue disappeared. We never got to choose the Facebook Page we want to use Instant Articles with and every time we click on login in the plugin a pop-up appears and then disappears…

    Any ideas?

  • Try making another app on Facebook Devs Platform. It should solve your problem.

OK sounds reasonable. What are the minimum action types and items needed to allow the App to work?

Worked out of the box for me for a site, not for the second one. Created a new app, but it’s the same.

Both sites are under WP 4.4.2

    Thanks guys,

Can you try updating to 2.7? It should be fixed there.

Same error – Login to Facebook just loops back to plugin settings again

    Thanks – on 2.1 – did you mean 2.1 (not 2.7?)

    wbwired no, I meant 2.7

Ok I only have the latest update today as 2.1…?

    How do I get 2.7?

    Best wishes

wbwired 2.7 is available in the repository:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/fb-instant-articles

Does it show 2.1 for you?

Thank you it does show 2.7 but not in dashboard doesn’t show as automatic update

    Will download 2.7

    Thanks again

    Pat

have 2.7, but after creating three new apps under Facebook Dev Page, it still does the same thing when I try to add the Facebook Page in the app. It’ll send me through part of the process of clicking ok, but then it brings me back to the app page (wp admin) and if I click on the Login with Facebook button again, it just stays.

I’ve even added our website to the App Dev panel too. Just add that the first time after creating a new app it will take you through part of the process but after that it just does nothing.

Interestingly enough, the plugin is letting me know that all my articles are formatted perfectly for Instant Articles though…

    Hi @gooma2,

I’m sorry you are going through this.

I’ll need to investigate further, and for this I’ll need more information:

    1. What is your WordPress version (if known)?
    2. What is your PHP version (if known)?
    3. Is your site self-hosted (meaning you have access to edit the files on the server)?
    4. What is your App ID?
    5. What is your site URL?

    Thanks!

    1. WP 4.5

    2. PHP 5.6.18

    3. Yes, self hosted on dedicated server

    4. (249248045421529)

I appreciate you dealing with all the headaches thrown your way after FA went live. We wound up having to hire a developer with Google AMP as that just had errors flying everywhere for people. This one, at least, seems much more workable.

Same here – on 2.7 – clicking login with Facebook seems to ‘try’ to achieve a Facebook url then loops back to dashboard plugin settings page

    1. WP 4.5
    2. Unsure
    3. No

Thanks for any support appreciate the time and effort

@wbwired (and potentially @tobaco), the behaviour you described of “trying” to reach a Facebook URL actually occurs under normal circumstances as well. Given this, I have a question:

During any of these attempts, do you recall ever going through the full oAuth process of logging in with Facebook and giving your app certain permissions to your WordPress blog? You can check which apps you’ve given permissions to here: https://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=applications.

If you answer yes to this question, then the “trying” to reach Facebook is the expected behaviour in order for you to be presented with a list of pages to choose from. But bear in mind that only pages which you are an admin of and which have been enabled for Instant Articles.

Let us know if this helps.

@gooma2, apologies if the response time hasn’t been adequate.

By chance, does my response above to @wbwired makes sense or help in any way? The behaviour you described might be caused by the same reason that you need to be an admin of a Page that is also signed up for Instant Articles.
