I can’t make my home page the static page in setting and reading, it’s not listed in the drop-down. When I go to pages my homepage is now showing as private and if I click on preview it comes up with index of /home instead of the page. I recently installed a plug-in which I assume is the issue. I’ve since deactivated and deleted the plugin but it’s still not working. Please help! Thanks

  • Hi @becky1111,

Please follow the steps below to investigate and select the static page:
    1. Ensure that the homepage status is set to ‘Published.’
    2. Update your permalink structure by selecting ‘Post Name‘ and then click ‘Update.’
    3. Switch to a different theme to investigate if there is a conflict with the current theme.

The page has to be publicly published before you can set it as the static homepage. To make the page public, uncheck the “Private” box in “Quick Edit”… OR change the visibility to PUBLIC in the page editor (see screenshots below).

Then you can set the page as the static homepage in Settings > Reading, and the URL will change correspondingly.

thank you, I will try those options, my concern is that if I change it to public it’ll show the index of /home that is showing in preview rather than the page itself? Do you have any advice for this?

Yes, and no… mostly no ??

You see /home currently because that’s the stand-alone page’s own address. This is the current address, and setting it to public will not have any effect on this.

But once you then set it as the homepage (which you can ONLY do after making it public), it’ll then adopt your homepage address — and the /home will be taken away. In fact, visiting /home will then redirect you automatically to the homepage address.

This fixed the issue. Thank you so much! Appreciate the help ??
