• Hey everyone, when I set my front page to blog I get the Oops can’t find this page title and the page is not full width like the others. You can see what I mean here https://www.mekevinwilliams.com

I have it set to static page.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    I see an index.html page!

Create a new page titled “POSTS”. Under settings->reading, set POSTS as you home page.

In regards to the “index.html” page mentioned by Steve above: Check your root directory via FTP and CPanel and make sure there is no file “index.html” that is being loaded.

Thanks so much for the replies guys.
Steve, I created a new page titled Posts and set it to my front page but when I visit my site it automatically goes to the Oops page. If I click on Blog, it’s fine, it’s just a matter of setting the Front/homepage to Blog without the oops message.

Shannon: Not sure how to check for the index.html. That would be in my service providers site correct? Should I delete that index file if I find it?

    Thank you

You should have access to CPanel or FTP via your hosting company.
Inside your root directory (usually /public_html) look for the file index.html.
If you find it, rename it index.html_BAK (avoid deleting files unless you know exactly what you’re doing)

NOTE: WordPress will handle all page requests EXCEPT if the actual file exists on the server – files on server will load first, if not found, WordPress will handle the request.

    Hi Shannon,
I checked and there was no index.html file to be found, just html.php

How do I get WordPress to handle this? What do I tell them exactly?

    Thank you

If the file doesn’t exist then that means it’s a WP thing.

    Try resetting permalinks:https://typerocket.com/flushing-permalinks-in-wordpress/

Thanks for the link Shannon. I followed the steps, so basically I went to Permalinks and clicked Save As but nothing happened, it”s still the same. Is there more to this then just clicking Save As? Do I have to put that rewrite code somewhere?

    Thanks again

Try renaming /.htaccess to /.htaccess_BAK and then save the permalinks again.

Hi Shannon, I renamed .htaccess to .htaccess_BAK and clicked Saved As again in the Permalinks section. It now seems like the site looks worse. The homepage is really messed up and when I click a page, it is nowhere to be found.

    Any idea?

    Thank you

If that’s the case, there must’ve been some specific configurations in the htaccess file which probably explains the issue.

To back it out, just delete (or rename) the new .htaccess and rename .htaccess_BAK to .htaccess

If you want to keep trying:

Go into Settings >> Reading and re-set your home page (Front page displays)

Have you made any customisations to your theme? These changes should reset everything back to default – if you’re seeing major changes it would indicate to me that you have a few customisations in htaccess and the theme itself.
