can’t set site address

Greetings,

I tried to activate a WP site that is replacing an existing, hard coded site recently. All I want to do is have the url for the WP site read: https://domainname.com/ instead of https://domainname.com/wordpress

I already changed the Site Address (URL) under Settings . . . didn’t do anything.

Can anyone point me to the correct process?
