This is an odd one. I just using this and when I select my 6 albums the most I see is 4. The odd thing is, if I select a different 6 (or more) they show fine.

All albums are all set to public. I’ve tried both the Photonic Block and shortcode. I’m using WP 6.4.3 and Twenty Twenty-three. I disabled all other plugins.

Can you please provide me with the following information?

    • Your site
    • Your SmugMug user id
    • The list of 6 albums you are passing and the ones you are actually seeing

    That was fast!

    My testing site: https://sandbox.imagesinthebackcountry.com/sm-gallery/

    Username is ‘hikinmike’.

These are the 6 galleries that should show (this is from my SM home page) https://gallery.imagesinthebackcountry.com/

    This is the shortcode:

    [gallery type='smugmug' view='albums' filter='B2mg8N,2nFczx,9Lk87g,r4SRLz,Nh8bt3,dr2NKf,nZVsDX' nick_name='hikinmike' columns='auto' layout='square']

As you can see between my test site and my SM home page, there are missing 2 galleries.

My guess is that you are being hit by a pagination limitation. Basically SmugMug can return a maximum of 100 albums in a single shot, and, when you are using filters, Photonic searches within that. I believe that some of your albums are falling outside that set of first 100.

Historically this wasn’t an issue, and SmugMug used to return 500 (I think). But with the change to 100, the only way to make filtering work for items on another page is to use something called query chaining, where I run queries in sequence in the back-end one after another until I get a match on all your items. But, this is computationally intensive, so I discourage it. The only platform where I have implemented this workaround is Google, where the page limit is just 50.

That being said, there is a native workaround in SmugMug: consider using a folder, where you can put in these albums. That way, you can simply display a single folder, and Photonic will pull all its contents for you without issues.

Adding those to a folder is not an option.

    Thanks for your response.

Adding those to a folder is not an option.

May I ask why? Putting something in a folder does not mean that it is not available as a standalone album. E.g. If you visit my profile, you will see 6 albums. However, these albums are actually nested in 3 folders, which you are unable to see within SmugMug.

Without this, I don’t have a solution to offer to you. I built query chaining for Google as Google doesn’t have a concept of grouping albums. But for SmugMug, Flickr and Zenfolio, there are folders, collections and groups respectively, that allow users to group things beyond what Photonic can natively support, so it is unlikely that I will deliberately add something inefficient to the plugin.

If I put those galleries in a folder, it will “break” my site. All of the links to other sites, search engines etc, will be lost.

When I was photographing my kids events I had put them all in a folder. There where a bunch of galleries. Since my kids are way past school age now, I just set that folder to unlisted and that solved the “too many galleries”.

OK, glad you were able to resolve the issue!
