Can’t start 2.3 — Ultimate Tag Warrior problem?

Ultimate Tag Warrior is not supported on WordPress 2.3 – you need to deactivate it. You can import your UTW tags into native WP tags, and then you can use your choice of newer plugins which will work.

I quite like simple Tags (a new plugin, not the old Simple Tags revived).

If you can’t get anywhere to deactivate it, just remove or rename the plugin files themselves.

Simple Tags rocks. I was concerned about not having a tag management system, but this is as good as the old one… but built on the wordpress tagging core.

Thanks very much to all of you for your help. The theme I use employs Ultimate Tag Warrior. Does this mean that I’ll need to switch to another theme?

Sorry to ask such simple questions, but it’s a simple mind at work here… at least where blogs are concerned.

I’ve released a WP 2.3 compatible version of UTW, which fixes this problem.

To finish this “resolved” issue off, I’ll add a few comments:

1. As a quick fix, I simply renamed my Ultimate Warrior Tags folder by adding a “_hold” to the end of the folder name. My blog started working immediately.

2. I did not have to change my theme.

3. I will look at the Ultimate Warrior Tags fixed version first, and then may explore Simple Tags.

Again, thanks to everyone for your very quick help. All my other WP upgrades have been completely trouble-free, so when I suddenly lost my blog, it was a little disconcerting.

I visited the FAQ page, and did everything it said to do, and I still can’t get this damn thing to work.

I even changed my admin password with the md5 hasher, which by the way, was a broken link! The link on the FAQ page is bad. I searched on Altavista and found a new one, and out of the kindness of my heart decided to share:

Nevermind, doh! The admin panel in 2.3 includes ‘Import’ option providing a conversion script to move Ultimate Tag Warrior tags to WordPress native tags.
