Can't stop elements from stripping out when pasted

  • While I was using the previous version of this plugin and WP3.8, I had no problems copying from previous, published WP posts into the post I was working on. Now, I’ve updated to WP4.0 and version 1.2 of Advanced TinyMCE Configuration, and everything except title is getting stripped from spans.

    These are my settings:
    paste_remove_styles = false
    paste_remove_spans = false
    paste_retain_style_properties = all
    extended_valid_elements = span[*]
    paste_webkit_styles = color font-size font-weight title

    Am I being stupid? Have I missed some completely obvious setting?
