• I used to be able to upload large images (don’t know the exact threshold, but in this case the images are about 2500×1500 pixels) without WordPress converting my lossless .png images to lossy .jpg with smaller dimensions.

I do use one plug-in that might be related, EEEW Image Optimization is the name of it (or something like that), but I have the plug-in configured to NOT convert .png to anything. And it used to work fine.

How can I force WordPress to accept larger image files? And I mean, these files are at LEAST 2 megabytes. Wow!

    Thanks,
    Graham

ps. Apologies if this question has been answered. My searches only yielded results in people attempting to convert images, not people trying to stop WordPress from doing it against the user’s will.

  • Hi @pacatineedshelp i think your 2mb file/image was supposed to upload fine, so in this case would you let me know your WordPress file upload limit so that i can assist properly?

256mb. Thank you in advance, Kings Amalaego.

Because of .png’s brilliant lossless compression, I even had some image files I used to be able to upload that were also around 2-3 mb, even though their dimensions were around 8000×8000 pixels (72 ppi). But the media uploader no longer allows those at all. Gives me an error message saying 2500 pixel diameter is the maximum. Still I can live with that limit if it’d just leave the .png’s .png’s and not convert to .jpg.

Well this is disappointing to put it mildly. It should work, it doesn’t work, and WordPress offers no technical support. Only this board that doesn’t have the answer.

I guess it’s time to explore WordPress alternatives. The alternatives may not have tech support either, but at least their basic services won’t arbitrarily stop working (in theory).

The only things that have modified my website between the time when it worked and the time when it didn’t are updates. So WordPress broke it and they offer no help to fix it. Disappointing to put it so very mildly, cleanly, and calmly.
