• Hi, after updating from 0.9 to 1.0, I can’t switch back. As an admin user, I can switch to another non-admin user, but I can’t switch back to the admin user. Neither the link at the top of the page (with the nice new green icon) nor the Profile menu item works. I get a blank page with the message:

    Could not switch users.

I have to hit the back button, log out, then re-log in as admin.
Including this one, I’m running 19 plugins on the site, all up to date.
However, I reverted to 0.9 and it works perfectly.

I don’t think it will fix it, but could you try the develop branch of User Switching and see if it fixes your problem? You can get it on GitHub: https://github.com/johnbillion/user-switching/tree/develop. There is a ZIP download button on the right hand side if you need it.

Thanks, John. You were right; it didn’t fix it. I found out why, though, through the process of elimination. If I disable the plugin “rename-wp-login” 2.3 by Janneke Van Dorpe, User Switching 1.0 (the WP repository version, not the develop version) works perfectly. Looks like the two plugins aren’t compatible anymore, and User Switching is actually listed as being compatible on the description page of “rename-wp-login”. Hope that helps.

Are you using HTTPS for your login page or admin area by any chance?

Not on this site, though I’m planning to.

I’ve just tested User Switching while Rename WP Login is active, and switching back works as expected. There aren’t any changes between 0.9 and 1.0 which would have broken the switch back functionality without breaking the switching functionality completely. I wonder whether another plugin may be interfering. Have you tried disabling any of your other plugins?

I haven’t disabled them all because I’ve got 19. So I started with the most likely, which was Wordfence: no difference. I individually disabled a couple more and then got to “Rename wp-login.php”, after which User Switching worked. So I stopped. If User Switching works fine with the other plugins enabled, then nothing *should* happen when I disable them, right? Of course, we have interactions and cascaded effects…

When you activated “Rename wp-login.php”, did you actually rename your login URL and then test? I didn’t do the test of “unrenaming” my login URL, but leaving the plugin active.

I’ve tested this again with Rename WP Login and I can’t reproduce the problem. I’ve renamed the login URL and I’ve tested it in single site and on multisite.

The cookies are set with the correct paths and values.

Are you using an unusually long login URL? Or one with strange characters in it? Anything else like that you can think of?

Nope, short URL, no strange chars. I had to give up on this because I had other irons in the fire. Thanks for trying, though. Cheers.
