Can’t turn comments on

    I can’t do this per entry at all. I set the overall settings to allow anyone to comment and my page still reads “Comments Off”

    I have read and read here and every other person who has this issue solved does not apply to me. I have not installed any plug-ins. I have done nothing beyond the default.

    There is no Comments & Pings box or section or anything when I enter a new post or edit an old one. I changed my theme to WordPress Default and the issue remains.

    I was at WordPress.com and then moved to self hosting. All the entries from my old blog allow comments. The first entry after I moved allows for comments. Then all the newer ones after that have comments off.

    I’ve not edited any code beyond changing the name of the header file to use my own, and the issue was an issue before I made that change.

  • what version of WP are you using, so we can point you at the ‘Comments & Pings box’ that you say you can’t see.

    could it be a plugin that’s hiding this inadvertently?

    I am using 2.5.1. I don’t know if it’s a plug in or not. I have not installed any plug ins. There are two listed, however that were there when I first installed it: Hello Dolly and Akismet. Neither are active.

    Below the Category box is the heading “Advanced Options” (you may have to scroll down to see it). Comments & Pings is the second to last box. If the box is collapsed, click on it to expand.

    There was nothing below Category earlier today. But, I was running 2.5 and updated to 2.5.1. Could that have made the difference? I’m really not web page stupid. Beyond not visibly seeing it there, I searched for those words on the page, just in case I was being blind.

    Well, so the issue is solved. Perhaps the upgrade did it. Now, if I could only get my other issue solved, I’d be a happy WordPress camper!
