Can't update Core, or any plugins (Maintenance Mode…)

Can you disable all your plugins and try again?

Tried that. Disabled ALL 17 plugins, tried again … exactly the same situation.

I’ve noted that there is NO “.maintenance” file created in the root at this point in time. I don’t know if that information assists?

Hi there, i’ve got the same issue.

Updating WordPress gives me the follow

There’s no “.maintenance” file.

Same issue.

I downloaded the partial upgrade file (https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/release/wordpress-4.2.1-partial-0.zip) and uploaded it into the root folder of WordPress – overwriting the old files.

I then ran the /wp-admin/upgrade.php file to upgrade (if required) the database.

I then went back to the plugins page to try upgrade the plugins, but received the SAME error.

The update process is starting. This process may take a while on some hosts, so please be patient.

I’m going to try download the full release of 4.2.1. and upload that to my FTP server and see if it helps.

Same issue…

Same issue. I cannot get out of Maintenance Mode – there is no maintenance file. Disaster.

worked for me. I’m out of Maintenance. But this is crazy.

Make a backup of wp-admin/includes/file.php
Edit the wp-admin/includes/file.php

replacing line 149
if ( empty( $filename ) || ‘.’ == $filename ) {
with
if ( empty( $filename ) || ‘.’ == $filename || ‘/’ === $filename ) {

which worked for me ??
