Can't update plugins: FTP Error.

  • I read every single forum thread about FTP errors when updating plugins, but nothing helped in my case. Web Hosting company also did not know the answer, asked me to contact WP support.

    Where it all begun. One day website went blank. Contacted hosting support and they found an issue with a plugin timing out so they have disabled the plugins. Website came back to live but after that cannot update plugins or WP to 3.5.2. This is what I get: ERROR: There was an error connecting to the server, Please verify the settings are correct. I am 100% sure all settings are correct.

    Also I noticed that all files and directories permissions were set to 777. Nobody knows who did this. I restored back to normal permissions, but that not fixed FTP error.
