Hi – I am being driven mad and hope someone can help with the following. I have 3 WP sites in total, and on 2 of them (hosted with the same provider, one a subdomain of the other), I am not able to update anything or add anything to my media library. The third site, hosted with a different provider, is so far giving me no problems.

When I try to update the theme or plugins from the dashboard, the page simply reloads – no error message is displayed, just a reloaded page with empty click boxes that I had previously clicked. I have tried to update the theme through the “appearance” menu, but there I get an “update failed: 0” message. I have confirmed that my theme subscription is current, that the key works and all the rest of it.

When I try to upload anything to my media library, I get an HTTP error. I have spoken to host support and they can’t see anything obviously wrong at their end, but want to charge me $50 to have someone actually provide WP support.

I seem to be able to start the process of creating a new page, but can’t add a featured image (library just spins). However, when I click save on the draft page (or post), it doesn’t save. I can’t preview the draft.

Maybe important to add – none of these 3 sites has a security certificate, but only the 2 that I am having problems with (both hosted with the same provider) are also not allowing me to login to the dashboard directly…I get an “insecure site” message, and the login page simply refreshes. I am only able to access these 2 sites via installatron on my cpanel. The host assures me that these 2 problems are not related, but who knows?

These are both “no frills” websites, no bells and whistles, no 2-way interaction with users, only a handful of plugins. I haven’t made any updates to either of these sites for a few months, and am experiencing this problem for the first time now.

Any help would be very gratefully received! thx ??

Via PHPMYADMIN, check and, if necessary, repair your database. It may be that the database(s) are corrupt.

Check the error log on your server. If you can’t find the log, please contact your host.

Meantime, enable wp_debug and wp_debug_log and after an error, look at wp-content/debug.log to see if anything gets logged there. https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Debugging_in_WordPress

You can also try this: Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you cannot access wp-admin, there are other ways to deactivate plugins.

Hi Again – thanks for this. I have already disabled all of the plugins, but hadn’t thought to do the same for the theme. Will give it a go, and will get in touch with the host on the other items. pending…
    thanks!

    …and again ??

I just switched the theme, and tried to update a plugin. This time, for the first time, I got an error message”Update failed:0″. So this is progress? lol

Can you install plugins (from FTP, if necessary)? Please install the health check plugin and report back its findings: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/

Hi Steve – it looks like the issue is resolved, after I threw myself on the mercy of the right person behind the chat window at GoDaddy. The problem turned out to be:

“Actually, it’s just an issue with one file. The “php.ini” file on your public_html directory. That file is actually no longer supported and the settings inside the file is causing some conflicts on the WP Admin page… I think it’s just the fact that the file is outdated. And there’s really no need to add the file anymore since the control panel have an option where you can just toggle the settings indicated on that file. And also the fact that instead of using “php.ini”, it should be “.user.ini”.”

So real good then! thanks again for your help ??
