Have you tried MANUAL updating? Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old copies of files & folder on your server before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first.
If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong.

i would just as soon have the automatic update option to work. that’s what i’ve been depending on for years. surely, WP will wake up and fix this issue soon, don’t you think?

i have no pressing urgency to do the update till it is fixed. thanks for your thoughtful suggestion though.

When you say, “i can’t update any of my sites”, what exactly do you mean? That is, what version(s) of WordPress were you starting with, what steps were taken to update the site(s), what error message(s) were displayed?

Moreover, have you tried updating with the default WordPress theme (e.g., Twenty Fifteen) and all plugins deactivated? That is, have you eliminated the theory that there is some kind of 3rd party theme and/or plugin(s) involvement with your inability to update your sites?

Oh, and what operating system/browser/browser version did you use and, when you tried to update again, did you try different browsers and at least flush your browse’s cache?

    Hi all,

Please attempt the upgrade again (I’ve just fixed a few things), I’m closing this thread in favour of https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/wordpress-upgrade-from-41-to-411-blank-screen?replies=29#post-6592607
