Cant update wordpress to 3.7 or update some plugins

  • Help! I can’t update to WordPress 3.7 – just get’s stuck in maintenance mode.

    I have tried deactivating Better wp security, changing the server settings within it and just about any thing else I could think of – always same issue.

    I also can’t update the Shareaholic plugin – I get this error message…

    Call to undefined function mbstring_binary_safe_encoding() in (removed exact file structure here for security)…/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-direct.php on line 62
