    Hi folks,

I have a big problem that suddenly appeared. I am logged in as admin user but can’t acess the updates page and I can’t install plugins. I can acess phpMyAdmin, can access ftp and also the backend. Something was wrong with my site, I guess it was hacked. I removed strange tags from the home link. I changed the password and want to find out what blocks updates and plugin section now.

Can you point me in the right direction? Where can the admin options be disabled? Had a look at the admin user in the database, it looks fine. Guess the menus are blocked elsewhere. Maybe there is more bad code?

    Any help appreciated.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Get a fresh cup of coffee, take a deep breath and carefully follow this guide. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.

If you’re unable to clean your site(s) successfully, there are reputable organizations that can clean your sites for you. Sucuri and Wordfence are a couple.

    Thanks @sterndata,

i used two of the external engines and no malware was found. So it seems only to be the link I found and corrected already, and the blocked access to updates and to plugin installation/activation.

As long as I can’t activate plugins I can’t activate a security plugin. Where could I look? Which config files or database tables?

    Let’s check for an error.

Check the error log on your server. If you can’t find the log, please contact your host.

Meantime, enable wp_debug and wp_debug_log and after an error, look at wp-content/debug.log to see if anything gets logged there. https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/

You can also try this: Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you cannot access wp-admin, there are other ways to deactivate plugins.

I desabled all plugins and changed to another theme. Still no possibility to access update or plugin installation.

When I copy a new plugin to the webspace and try to activate in backend, I get the following error:

Warning: require_once(/var/customers/webs/KD371454/mottografie_neu/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/Diff/Renderer/Html/SideBySide.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/customers/webs/KD371454/mottografie_neu/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wordfenceClass.php on line 7 Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘/var/customers/webs/KD371454/mottografie_neu/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/Diff/Renderer/Html/SideBySide.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/share/php’) in /var/customers/webs/KD371454/mottografie_neu/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wordfenceClass.php on line 7

now I will go and search for Logs.

debug.log shows errors with thrive architect, which does not seem to be the problem (if desabled i still don’t find WordPress Updates and plugin installation feature in the backend.

By the way: I manually updated wordpress in the meantime to latest release to see if it fixes my problem, but it did not.

How can I delete references to my site/myself in this forum? I get spam from companies via my contact form offering wp programming services.
