Cant Upload Anything

  • I was having trouble upgrading my wordpress site to latest version so uninstalled the whole lot off the domain etc then reinstalled wordpress from scratch but while now on latest version i cannot upload any files or anything and i am trying to rebuild my entire site completely in wordpress now so really need help getting this fixed.

    anyone got any ideas? Please note I am a newbie to wordpress all i know how to do with it is write blog posts and nothing else so need detailed instructions on fixing this.

    when i try to upload a file i get this error.

    “Banner.png” has failed to upload due to an error
    The uploaded file could not be moved to /var/www/vhosts/stuartbennett.me.uk/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads/2012/11.

    any ideas what this means?

    Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

    okay dont have permission numbers in my sites control panel here is what i see.

    Read mode Write mode Execute/search mode
    Owner
    Group
    Others

    all 9 checkboxes are ticked.

    You need to contact your hosts about changing permissions. Or see the page I linked to above.

    okay hopefully they will open there support centre in the next week or so and bother to respond.

    okay esmi i finally got ftp access working to go in and do this i tried all the number combinations you suggested and it still isnt working. whats next?

    Try asking your hosts to check whether your have a folder ownership issue.

    okay have passed to freezone tech support they said to just tell them the exact error message and they will go in and fix whatevers wrong.
