I am trying to upload a pdf to the plugin that will be available for download. The pdf is about 10 MB

I can select the file, and drag it to the “Add Media” section of wordpress, but then on the right it says “Http Error”

There is another pdf sent to me from the same person that I was able to upload just fine. That one is sized 31 Mb. Both pdfs were originally 50-70 MB so I had to compress them using: https://smallpdf.com/

Can you please help me? The first, smaller pdf is the important one I need. I only uploaded the 2nd larger pdf to try and figure out what was going on.

  • Here are four fixes for the problem you’ve described.

Please tag the thread as resolved once you find a solution.

I have intermittently run into this issue as well, but I have found that after the “http error” message appears to stop the upload, I can close the file upload dialog, go to something else on the admin menu and then go back to the Media Library tab – and viola! the pdf file then appears.

It would be nice to get a real fix, but in the meantime, this is how I work around the http error.

I would suggest yoou to increase your WP memory limit.

@akshay1534 The fixes proposed are real as the Memory limit fix is a real fix as are the other ones I suggested. The problem is caused by a server configuration issue and the article I linked to has four real fixes. Sorry if you feel as if it is simply four work around but they are actual permanent fixes that work based on the sever configuration. You should only need one of them not all four.

Fixed it. There’s an option in the download manager we use that changed the memory limit so I did that, which fixed the problem. Thanks!

Feel free to post back here anytime. That is why we are here. Happy you found a fix.
