It might be because the operation takes too long (often the case if you use some image optimizer) and PHP decides to cancel the process.

Did you check your PHP error logs? The answer should be in there.

How do I check the PHP error logs?

Should be available at your hosting service dashboard or somewhere else. You should learn where to find this file, how to read it, and basic debugging otherwise taking care of a WordPress install is going to be challenging. It worth spending a few hours ??

No, this is not resolved. No error in PHP logs.

Can I access you install? Send me your info/credentials at support(at)meow.fr and I will check.

Thanks for sharing with me your credentials.

Indeed, there is an error occurring while uploading the file. The request gets “broken” and your website returns a 404.

This error must be logged somewhere… Without knowing what the error is or where it breaks, it’s impossible to debug more than this unfortunately…

Can you ask your hosting service for the logs?

It also breaks in the Media Manager when uploading a file (if you want to see the error happening somewhere else, it’s not linked to a specific screen). The retina creation gets halted.

I just gave you access to the cpanel (see mail) if that helps.

    Side note time.

@tigroumeow Thank you so much for supporting your user. But please do not request that access again in these forums. That is something that is actively discouraged and doing that repeatedly can get you into trouble here.

I know you are just looking to provide support and I get that. But unless you are prepared to get liability insurance then asking for and getting that level of access is just going way too far. It’s not appropriate to do that. If you are going to do that then please consider supporting your users elsewhere and not in these forums.

Ask for data, try to replicate the problem, suggest things, make a custom plugin to log your real plugin’s output. But do not ask for that access again here please.

Understood Jan, to be honest I don’t like accessing people install directly neither. But mostly because it takes me a long time… but true, if I happen to break the install it can’t be good. However I am not sure how I would be able to help many people in that case. People aren’t even able to find their PHP error logs most of the time so asking them to debug a plugin and even looking at Chrome Developer console is hard.

    Anyway, will try ??
