    All of a sudden I cannot upload images to my Headway theme (2.0.4) or to WP Admin. When I upload an image in WP to a page, it places a frame where the image was to go, but there is no image visible then or when I publish and view; in Headway Theme, it says “upload failed”.

    I have checked with Hosting group (GoDaddy) and everything looks fine on their end. I can download images to my file manager and see them manually, but it is like WP is out of sync with the host file manager;

    Many hours lost on this problem and I am not the most technical.

    Thanks for the help

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    esmi;
    what is Twenty Ten theme? I am a novice as you can tell.

    It’s the default theme that ships with WordPress 3. You should be able to find it via Appearance -> Themes. When you hit a problem, switching to the default theme is always a good idea as it may help to establish if the problem is theme-related. Plus, if you post here, someone will suggest it 9 times out of 10. ??

    I deactivated all plug-ins and widgets one at a time–no change; I activated Twenty Ten theme–no change. Not sure how the theme impacts uploading files in WP admin?
    I appreciate all the help, my frustration level is very high which comes from being a novice–sorry for venting

    Not sure how the theme impacts uploading files in WP admin?

    Any theme can, in theory, impact upon the Admin area. I can bring an entire Admin area to a shuddering halt with a missing } in a theme’s functions.php file. ??

    Are the images files being uploaded to your wp-content/uploads folder(s)?

    (@aragopartners)

    they are not being loaded to the wp-content/uploads folder; I suppose I could try to upload a test image to my uploads folder and then see if it does load to the page, would that be beneficial to know?

    Thanks again, I really appreciate you helping.

    Is there any chances that you have filled your available hosting space?

    Are your uploads being sorted into month/year folders? Some hosts limit the number of files allowed in any one folder (which is where the whole month/year sub-folders thing comes in handy).

    (@aragopartners)

    That is a very good question:
    I am using GoDaddy and have been talking with them about this problem so I would expect them to notice If I am exceeding any space limitations.

    They have folders for everything, but only see file names for each of the files. I use backupbuddy for file backups and I do see a few files of different extensions for different dates, but I just started that this month.

    I have a wp blog (which is having the problem),an HTML website and another WP web site all hosted together. Very few files show on the upload folder for the problem blog.

    Maybe a questions I should pose to the GoDaddy?

    I think it would be worth having a word with them – and do ask if perhaps you’ve reached the max number of files allowed in any one folder.

    I will ask them, but in the header-upload file (I only have two files of 60k each). Unless there is a total allowable space maximum that I hit for all the hosted blogs/web sites.

    I am going to try to upload in my other WP website hosting in the same space and see if I have same issue or not first, then will call them.

    Thank you very much and I will let you know what I find out.

    esmi;

    Just tried uploading on another WP Website in same hosing area and worked fine so it is isolated to this particular blog.

    Still frustrated.

    Esmi;

    I checked with the hosting company and I am well within any storage limitations. I notice that WP does not create the upload folder for Nov when I try to upload the images like my other site does so there must be a disconnect there somewhere.

    Any further thoughts? Do I have to re install WP?

    Again, thank you for your help.

    Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

    Esmi;

    Are you referencing the permission settings at the hosting level for the directory?

    Godaddy does my hosting and they only have three levels under permission for owner or user. Read, Write, Execute. Is this what you are referencing. I have tried it at the header-upload folder level, but not sure if I did it at the upload directory level.

    Thanks for staying with me on this.

    Yes. See the page at the link I posted above.
