    I have been trying to upload media files to the website and keep getting the following error message;

    “file.pdf” has failed to upload.
    Unable to create directory uploads/2024/07. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    This means nothing to me. Can someone tell me how to correct the issue please.

    Files that are uploaded to the Media Library are stored as such in the hosting of your website. This is the same as if you want to save a file on your computer.

    The message displayed indicates that the file could not be saved. There can be various reasons for this.

    Please take a look under Tools > Site Health to see if you see anything unusual there. In particular, take a look in the Info tab, where the directories used by WordPress are listed. If there is an error message here, e.g. that a directory does not have write permissions, please contact your hoster’s support team for a solution.

    Another reason could be that the storage space in your hosting is full. This should also be displayed in Site Health. Here too, you should contact your host’s support team.

    Thanks for the comprehensive reply.

    I looked at Site Health as suggested and could not find any error messages. Likewise I couldn’t find any details of the storage space. I raised a support ticket with the site hosting service and they say the problem is with WordPress and not them. This leaves me in the middle of nowhere. Are there any other options that I can try? Uploads worked fine until recently, I wonder if there is a problem with the last WP update?
