I’ve wandered all over the forums – haven’t found anything specifically related to the error message I am getting. I’m using a hosting service I am unfamiliar with because my client wants to continue using them. Their WordPress installation is handled through Fantastico (something else I know nothing about).

Anyway – everything was fine until I went to put an image into a post… I can upload just fine, and can see all the images in the Media Gallery -but if I try to insert one, I get the following:

“An appropriate representation of the requested resource /news/wp-admin/media-upload.php could not be found on this server.”

However, when I look at the folder via the FTP, I can see this file is plainly there.

The error message upon attempting to insert media also goes to to say:

“Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. “

I do believe trying to figure this out is about to give me a seizure! I’ve installed and set up many other WordPress sites, but this is crazy. I also cannot seem to install any sort of auto-plugin or upgrade as it keeps asking me for the FTP login and password – which I know I have correct – yet it won’t let me in. I know it’s correct, because I can clearly get into everything via FTP connection.

I see others having issues with that – which isn’t quite so bad because I can manually install plugins, themes, etc. Sure would be nice to be able to take advantage of the 2.7 upgrade to do this, though.

Thoughts? The Media thing is going to drive me CRAZY!

The few images posted could only be done by URL link – not Media library…

  • first off, I realize this is a 3 month old thread but I am having the same problem. I can see the preview image when selecting it from the media library. As soon as I tell it to insert it into my current post, I get a 404 error. It suggests I contact my server administrator (in this case, Im using DirectNIC).

I have the same problem, I try to insert an image in the post from the media library and I get a 404 error page, if anyone can help it would be appreciated.
