• I’m working on a site for a community radio station https://liffeysoundfm.ie/ and updated to WP 4.1 but now I can’t use the visual editor for posts and pages.

I’ve checked to make sure visual editor is enabled on both users and it is. I’ve tried clearing the cache on my browser (there doesn’t seem to be a cache plug in on the site). I’ve also disabled all plug-ins and nothing seems to work.

Can anybody suggest anything to fix this problem?

  • Hi Mark,

I’m afraid it’s going to be very difficult to diagnose and fix your problems without server access.

Somebody else may be able to chime in with the cause of the ‘cheatin uh’ message but I’m afraid I don’t have experience with that.

Hi codecowboy, I think I may have gotten the passwords from the hosting company to get a look at the files so I might be able to look at them, fingers crossed

Good news ?? Gather as much information as you can, including anything in the server logs relating to PHP.

Will do. I’m not too familiar with PHP or back end stuff in general but I’ll do my best. Thanks for your help.

Hi Codecowboy, I’m looking at the ftp and those skin.min.css and content.min.css files do exist

    Hi Mark,

Sorry you are still having problems. If I try to load https://liffeysoundfm.ie/wp-includes/js/tinymce/skins/lightgray/skin.min.css?wp-mce-4107-20141130 I get a 400 bad request error from your server. Its possible other files including javascript files are also generating that error and causing or contributing to your problem. I would advise you to contact your host about this.

Ask them to show you where your error logs are located and to check your file permissions as per https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_File_Permissions#Permission_Scheme_for_WordPress.

At this point I would also take a backup of all your files and your database if you haven’t already.

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Backing_Up_Your_Database

I haven’t provided much support on the forums before and am not sure of the protocol regarding suggesting that you engage paid help for this but it might be worth considering hiring a WordPress expert to help get to the bottom of this. This is likely to lead to a faster solution for you as support here is provided volunatarily and I personally will not have time in the near future to help further.

    Best of luck!

    HI Mark,

Could you try adding this line to your wp-config.php? I’ve seen this fix this issue.

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Debugging_in_WordPress#SCRIPT_DEBUG

Since this is probably caused by a plugin or theme incompatibility, it seems that with all of your plugins and theme disabled the issue should go away, but you tried this right? If it still doesn’t work with everything disabled then the issue is with your WordPress install and I would suggest reinstalling WordPress. If it still doesn’t work then it’s a host issue and you should reach out to them.

I know this can be a frustrating process but this is the best way to get to the bottom of this.

Thanks for your help guys. I’m going to try these fixes this morning and hopefully they’ll sort the problem. I’ll let you know how I got on.

Hi folks, so I’ve tried all of those steps, including reinstalling WordPress manually and I’m still having the same problems. Does anybody have any other suggestions?

Mark did you get any further with this? I have the same / a similar problem. I have made a separate post here.
