    Good Afternoon,

I have just set up my www.ads-software.com site after running a WordPress.com site for the past four months, redirected the domain to Bluehost, and appear to be fully operational on the new site. I have exported the content from my original WordPress.com site, downloaded the WordPress importer, and imported the content from the .com site to the .org.

Problem: I can’t seem to view any of the imports. Would someone kindly advise me of how I can activate the imported content?

The site I am referring to is satinandsnowflakes.com

  • Howdy,

Do your Posts / Pages show up in the back end?

Are you using the same theme you had on WordPress.com? (Not a requirement for it to work; I just want to know.)

Do the same Categories you had on WordPress.com site show in your new site?

I’ll see if I can help.

    Howdy Paul!

By “back end”, I’m assuming you mean in the Dashboard? No, there are no posts, no categories, no menus… nothing. It’s the exact same screen/set up as when a new WordPress user starts a new blog from scratch.

I do, however, have a brand new theme installed. I fell in love with the theme and knew that I couldn’t use it on WordPress.com, so I have set up a .org site to use it. I have a fair amount of traffic and don’t have a way to direct readers to the old site while I work on the new, so the sooner I can get my old posts imported and visible, the better!

    Thanks again Paul.

Actually, it looks like all my media is on the dashboard, but no posts, comments, links, etc. Any ideas?

Hmm, I know this sounds lame, but it is what I would do first.
Can you try the importer again? (Nothing to lose, really..)
And… how big is the file that you exported from the wordpress.com site?
If it’s not very big… you might want to open it in a text editor to see if anything is actually in it. It is possible the export itself is not right, and you’d need to export form wordpress.com again.
    Let me know,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

So I exported the .com content again, then I imported it all over again with the new export file. Once it finished importing, at the very bottom it said “All done, Have Fun!” and had a link on the Have Fun that activated it.

I don’t think that link existed prior to this last import, but I may have missed it.

Thanks very much for your help!

    Brittany
