Can't view site in Localhost

Good morning. Hope everyone will have a good holiday.

I have WP 4.4 installed on Ubuntu 14.04. All is under LAMP.

I had issues with the installation but finally got that to work.
login no problem
can get to wp-admin (dashboard).
on wp-admin in upper left corner you can click “view site” to check out your site. and this is what happens.

Browser will open a new tab but its not the site. it is the apache default page. We all know this page ya?

so what did i do wrong and how can i fix it?
