Can't zoom certain parts of the image

I have found a similar issue in that some images the zoom function allows you to view all the image when moving the mouse over the thumbnail. See example 1

But in other images the zoom appears to be restricted and you only view parts of the image. See example 2

Note the box around the pointer are different sizes when you put the mouse pointer over the images. One is square and the other is rectangle.
